The NL Central-leading Cubs host a 3-game series against the AL Central-leading cross-town rival White Sox this weekend. The Cubs’ probable starters over this span are on fire with Lilly winning his last 2 starts, Marquis victorious in his last 3, and Dempster sporting both a 2.76 ERA and an 8-2 record on the year. The pitching staff will continue adding numbers to the win column so long as their batters continue to provide the kind of run support that’s topped the National League thus far (393 runs through 72 games). The Cubs are 29-8 at home this season and the Sox are 17-20 on the road. What’s it add up to? A Cubs sweep of the Sox. This one’s in the bag. My only real concern is what kind of numbers DeRosa is going to put up for my fantasy team – I could really use a stolen base from you these days, but I’d settle for a home run. |

While not going to overwhelm you with huge offensive production, the White Sox are led by their pitching staff that boasts a major league leading ERA with an average of 3.33, and has even upped this average over the past 61 games with a 3.04 ERA. Danks and his 2.90 ERA take on the Cubs in the first game, followed by the 3.24 ERA of Contreras, equating to two wins right there, as the average ERA of the opposing Cubs pitchers is a pitiful 4.50. Add this to the fact that the Sox have Ozzie Guillen leading their squad with his brash personality and eyebrow-raising comments, giving this ball club an edge over every other team in the majors, energizing his team to give their all every game. To add insult to injury (literally), the Cubs' All-Star, Alfonso Soriano, is out of the lineup for this series. I'm sorry Cubbies, maybe you'll get them next year, but Chicago is the Sox's this year.
