  NHL Playoffs on Jacked

PenguinsThe NHL playoffs have reached the Conference Finals with with the Dallas Stars(1-3) vs. Detroit Red Wings (3-1) and Philadelphia Flyers (0-3) vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (3-0). With explosive star power from Crosby to Osgood, these Stanley Cup Semifinal match ups will provide pure fireworks.

What to look for: Detroit is leading 3 games to 1 and Johan Franzen just set the record for most goals in a series against Colorado with 9 in just 4 games. Chris Osgood leads all remaining goalies with a 1.62 goals against average and has lost just 1 game. But the Stars showed resilience last night beating the Red Wings 3-1.

What to look for: The Penguins are up 3 game to none, and Marc-Andre Fleury is on fire with a .937 playoff save percentage and 2 shutouts. He’ll be put to the test by Philly’s R.J. Umberger and Daniel Briere who’ve lit up the net 10 and 8 times respectively this postseason.

NBA Playoffs on Jacked

Kevin GarnetThe NBA playoffs are in full swing with the favorites to meet in the championship being the Celtics and the Lakers in the East and West respectively. Two series' to keep an eye on in May, however, are the Lakers vs. Jazz and Celtics vs. Cavaliers.

What to look for: The Lakers are up 3 games to 2 with Kobe Bryant, bad back and all, leading the charge. Pau Gasol ended the game last night with back to back baskets. Look to see if Boozer can get his game going in Utah to force the deciding game 7 on Sunday night.

What to look for: The Celtics are up 3 games to 2 on last years defending Eastern Conference champs. King James and Company rebounded from 0-2 to beat Boston in back to back games, but the Celtics dominated in Boston with heroic performances by Pierce and Garnett. Look for Lebron to bounce his Cavs back with a great game and force game 7 in Boston.

It’s said that an NBA series doesn’t start until the home team loses a game (which I guess means 3 of the 4 Conference Semifinals matchups haven’t started). I don’t understand that. I do understand this: teams that start 0-2 in a 7-game series lose 94% of the time. In all 3 games in New Orleans, the Spurs have led after the first half but were outscored significantly in the second. The Hornets have won those games by 19, 18, and 22! At home, the Hornets are making the Spurs look like who we thought they were – old. But there is hope. Fact: the series is going back to San Antonio where the Spurs are 39-7 this season including 5-0 in the playoffs. And if there’s one team that’s going to pull this off it’s the Spurs who have both the experience and coaching to made the proper adjustments to defend their home court tonight and take game 7 Monday night in Louisiana. It’s also said that the best team wins a 7-game series – and that’s still the Spurs.
Prediction: Spurs in 7 games.

The Hornets demonstrated in their first two games that they were too fast and athletic for the suddenly "old' Spurs. Then the Spurs returned to their old form in the next two games at home, dominating the suddenly "inexperienced" Hornets by 20 points in game 4. But the series shifted back to New Orleans and Chris Paul (The real NBA MVP) and fellow all-star David West again showed their dominance over the Spurs and put them in place with a 22 point smack down. New Orlean's knows that the series is theirs to lose, and I don't think Chris Paul will even let this thing go back to New Orleans. I predict a huge effort from Paul, Peja, and David West, with the Hornets using their suprerior quickness and defensive tenacity to outlast the Spurs down the stretch and break this pattern of the home team winning in the NBA Playoff's second round.
Prediction: Hornets in 6 games.
